Seasonal Plant - Growing Tips |

Now is the time to start thinking about growing your own plants from seeds. This is the cheapest way to pack your garden with a wide variety of intersting plants. you do not have to be an expert gardener to grow seasonal plants and seeds. You just need patience and to be prepared to set aside a little time to ensure that the plants and seedlings are given the TLC they want when the need it .
You do not even need to have a greenhourse to grow your own seeds, a warm kitchen windowsill will do just as well. Simply choose a suitable seed pot or tray and cover it with a polythene bag and you have a mini greenhouse which is the ideal environment for your seeds and seedlings.
Before you start planting make a checklist of what you will need to propogate your seeds. Seed trays Pots Labels Markers Compost Polythene or clingfilm
If your pots are used it is vital that these are cleaned prior to starting. Wash them down in a mix of bleach and detergent and leave to drain well then rinse again.
When you are ready to start planting, Fill a seed tray container with some standard seed sowing compost Firm down the compost using a presser board, a tamper or you could use your hand. Sow the seeds onto the surface Cover the seeds by sieving on some compost Water the seed tray with a watering can that has a fine rose nozzle attached, you could also use a mist sprayer Cover over the tray with some cling-film, clear polythene sheet or a pane of glass. It is important to keep a daily check on the new seeds for signs of growth and remember to keep the moist using a mist sprayer. Once the seedlings appear, remove the newspaper , glass or polythene and place the tray in a well-lit area. Its important to spray the seedling with water regularly, but don't allow the compost to become water-logged.
